compared to prev pages, less color variance which = less interesting-looking page
color variance not the absolute issue, but in this instance, rather than managing a particular consistency of visual, can make page feel bland and washed out
partially due to contrast; need to color with companion plugged in so don't run into energy saver brightness adjustments
partially due to overreliance on overlays to handle color w/o tweaking values further and w/o utilizing other colors on overlays to create variety
solutions: use notebook file to study color for pages; mix and match neons w/ more subdued colors
also: tones not the most effective thing. works for some comics, didn't work well for this one. w/everything hand drawn, anything to regimented in pattern and consistency can feel particularly mechanical and therefore in contrast (in a bad way) to feel of page
solutions: use tones to figure out placement, then go over by hand and color-treat later -- perhaps purposefully create imperfections in pattern or simply do it entirely freehand once an idea is established
panels 2/4 feel empty w/poor use of space, but env not interesting enough at their angles to utilize well, so may have been simply result of poor planning/too few tools to work with. decreasing text size slightly could help, esp since next pages are talky
bubble layouts could use some work too; flow is stuttery in spots, possibly due to overreliance on original thumbnail rather than tweaking where necessary
inks have interesting quality about them tho; occasionally feels like a slightly cheap printing, or imperfect scan, which i think fits the look i want
drawings generally solid, could use more tightening in spots tho, esp with bianca who can be inconsistent
perspective bad in p2, largely fine but could have been prevented simply by tilting camera below deva more (i don't care that it's hard to draw, it looks amateurish!!)
p5 could use some drawing tweaks but color is more damaging to look than anything else; drawing is largely fine as is
hand-drawn panels and new layer format works well, however; hard to put things into folders but layer count overall is smaller and more manageable
layer effects can complicate things, however, so plan ahead more and rely less on multiply layers for shading, or simply merge layers once color effect is achieved for simplicity's sake (shading can always be redone with how slapdash i want to make it look)
next page: focus on oranges for indoor setting, warm lights, golds and yellows to "deify" deva more
greens/blues w/heavy watercolor for shadows? might not work w/orange light, may need to spotblack all shadows for that page and go over inks w/watercolor brushes like w/night sky on p4
it would help to plot out crowd more consistently by arranging chairs and standing room, so draw out the floorplan first, SUPER simple but easy to fuck up
